NCAA Football 12 Shot 1

In this week’s releases, we really don’t have much in the way of hyped up game releases. Instead, the biggest releases take their inspiration from outside gaming. NCAA Football 12 will be a nice precursor to the looming Madden release while Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 proves that the childhood fantasy has grown up. I actually haven’t seen a single Harry Potter movie myself until Deathly Hallows, Part 1, so no cringing images of Quidditch here; this movie game doesn’t sound that bad compared to another football game from EA.

Arcade Edition Shot 1Gamers looking for a quick fix this week are going to get their fill with the Xbox Live Arcade’s release of Half-Minute Hero, which has all the elements of an RPG in less than a minute rather than the usual 50-something hour grind. Otherwise, get in some quick rounds of horde-blasting action with Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. Personally, since I still haven’t downloaded the DLC for Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, it might be time to pick up the disc-based release instead. After all, new artwork never hurt anyone!

Ocarina of Time Shot 1

Nintendo fans are finally going to see their first notable, first-party release for the system with Ocarina of Time 3D for the 3DS, which should boost some sales. Aside from that, we got games that satisfy almost all genres, with racing fans, shooters, and RPG gamers satisfied. It’s arguable whether or not a movie game like Cars 2 will be good, but we’ll have to wait and see. Personally, I want to see more of Trenched, having spent so many hours on tower defense games in the library at college, I’d love to see how that combines with both shooter and RPG elements.

Red River Shot 2

With E3 happening the same week, next week’s releases may not get as much attention, but there’s still some gems within the crowd. This week will be big for 3DS owners as they finally get the anticipated update that will allow for both the Nintendo eShop and internet browsing. Shooter fans get their first realistic game in a while in the form of Operation Flashpoint: Red River and others may get a bigger kick out of sequel inFamous 2. Personally, I’m more excited by the prospect of getting Excitebike and Pokédex 3D finally! What can I say? I love the smaller releases. As a fighting gamer though, I can’t ignore the looming release of Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition. Time to play on PSN with the Yun Army!

BBCS Pic 1

With few releases this week, we certainly get quality over quantity. Hunted: The Demon’s Forge has been long awaited, and what I would personally dubbed “Resident Evil 5-done-right.” And being a big fighting game fan, there’s no denying the drawing power that BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II has over me, despite the horrifying d-pad on either the 3DS or PSP. Although if you haven’t been waiting for these titles, I doubt you’d be as giddy as me.

Dimensions Shot 1

An abundance of sex appeal throughout this week’s releases, as we see the 3D jiggling mechanics of Dead or Alive: Dimensions and Duke Nukem’s return in Critical Mass. Not to worry for those of you who may be a bit more modest; feel free to pop in Kung Fu Panda 2 and game with the young’uns who the previous games for whom the previous games may not be appropriate. Personally, I’m dying to do a bit more rally racing myself.

Noire Shot 1

Gamers this week can look forward to lots of traveling, whether it be to different times in Chrono Trigger and L.A. Noire or the Zion National Park in Fallout: New Vegas’ expansion, Honest Hearts. It’s hard to bring myself to support the virtual console release of Chrono Trigger, considering how many releases of the game there’ve been without a proper remake, but perhaps my subconscious will once again trick me into believing a purchase will persuade Square Enix into finally remaking it.

Note: PS3 DLC Releases are tentative based on PSN’s network status.

Brink Shot 1

Out of the games coming out this week, while everyone else is looking forward to Brink, I’ll probably be trying out LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game or Virtua Tennis 4 instead. Nothing entices me like a LEGO version of Keira Knightley or Penelope Cruz. On the other hand, I’ve never really given the Virtua Tennis games a good go and it’s as good a time as any to try it out. Dream Trigger 3D also looks like it will be a fun feast for our eyes and this new technology.

Thor Screen 1

The God of Thunder makes a visit both to the movie theater and every major console this week in his movie tie-in game, Thor: God of Thunder. The PS3 gets another great retail release for fans awaiting MotorStorm: Apocalypse. Not much in the way for online releases for the PS3 though, which is just as well considering that we’re not even sure when exactly we’ll be back on the network. When it does come back though, guess you’ll be busy picking up games that came out last week! Things look bright for 360 owners though with the 360 exclusive Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury will be enough to make PS3 owners jealous regardless of PSN connectivity.

Trouble Witches Title Shot

The upcoming week seems like a bust, with few games coming out and none that have been marketed or publicized too heavily. However, there are still some games coming out that you might have been on the lookout for already, such as Darkspore. It seems that downloadable games are going to take the spotlight this week, with some platforming action in Outland and flying witches in Trouble Witches Neo!. If these don’t interest you, take this as a chance to give your wallet or credit card a break!
