[Friday Five] Good Reasons to Import

Back in the days of cartridge converters and illegal modifications all for the purpose of playing imported games, most American gamers only heard about elusive Japanese games and could only find out about them from rare magazine articles or word of mouth. With the internet and a greater interest in gaming, not only is more information making it to western gamers by way of individual user created videos, but there is a greater number of games being published here as well. Although that is the case, people still import games – and for good reason. Here are at least five reasons why to import a game instead of waiting for it to come overseas.

[Quick Questions] Cave Story 3D – Producer Jack Niida

While a relatively unknown game, Cave Story has been making a splash amongst fans of indie games for some time already for its old school roots, which shine through the simple, yet difficult gameplay. Earlier this year, NIS America has announced that the game will be making its 3D debut on the 3DS later this year. Curious about the game and what it will bring to a wider audience, we decided to ask Cave Story 3D producer Jack Niida a couple of Quick Questions. [Quick Questions] Pokédex 3D – Project Market Coordinator Joel Simon

Recently released with the Nintendo eShop on the Nintendo 3DS, Pokédex 3D is already making a splash amongst Pokémon fans with its expansive database of Pokémon from the Unova region. Players can view all their favorite Pokémon, given that they were lucky enough to have it in their own Pokédex or have a friend who can give it to them, and even take pictures with them! Lots of great things involved in this completely free title and we decided to ask Joel Simon, project market coordinator of Pokédex 3D, a couple of Quick Questions.

[Review] Dead or Alive Dimensions – 3D Jiggling Galore

Having been a couple of years since I’ve last played a Dead or Alive game, I was interested to see how far the series has come along. Transitioning from the childhood mindset of enjoying gravity-defying bosoms on the Playstation 2 to looking at Dead or Alive from a seasoned, competitive standpoint was definitely a change. That said, it’s time to see if the series has evolved into a legit fighter, able to step into the ring with the likes of Tekken and Street Fighter, or if it still only provides eye candy for those too young to buy an M-rated game.

With the recent launch of the 3DS, we’re finally getting a taste of what the system is like, with a multitude of games that seem like a tech demo tagged on to a decent game. Dream Trigger 3D is the embodiment of that; it mixes average gameplay with great use of 3D visuals that gives its players an almost psychedelic trip.

[Friday Five] Future 3DS Wish List

3DS SystemSo far, we’ve gotten some good games on the 3DS already, such as Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition and Dream Trigger 3D (okay, that one isn’t as unanimous). But they really don’t do much other than showcase the 3D capabilities of the system. What about the other possibilities? Such as the gyroscope or dual camera? The’re really only implemented in some minigames so far. We can’t help but wonder what classic game franchises would realy benefit from these new features! We do have five in mind that would really take advantage of the 3DS though!
